A: Short answer: YE$.
Orientation consists of learning and training. It's fun, but it's work. You will be compensated accordingly. And it won't be with Monopoly money.
Q: What do I do if I'm running late?
A: Short answer: Let us know ASAP by contacting your department. Talent, this means texting or calling the Talent Team Phone #: (562) 480-3616
Please text if possible (i.e. you're riding the bus, walking, or getting a ride). If you're driving, please call.
Please do not text and drive.
Mistakes happen, but please do everything in your power to not be late. If you are running late, please text (or be ready to tell us, if you're calling) the following info:
- Full Name
- Maze / Role
- Call Time (time you should be clocked-in)
- ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival)
That's it. No other info and no apologies are needed. Just the facts.

Where: Smoking/vaping is restricted to the designated smoking/vaping area in the BOH smoking area.
Common Sense: And, of course, do not smoke or vape in view of guests.

Q: If I call or text the Talent Phone #, with whom am I actually communicating?
A: Short answer: Probably Arroya, Tara, or Kat.
The Talent Phone # is associated with a mobile phone, appropriately named, “The Talent Phone”. While this phone always remains in the Talent Team’s possession, you may not always speak to the same Talent Team member when calling. At any given time throughout the event this phone could be in the hands of Arroya, Tara, or Kat. Therefore, it’s 99% likely that you are communicating with one of those three individuals when you call or text the Talent Phone #.
Q: What is the difference between the Talent # and Scheduling #?
The Talent # is the phone you call or text to connect with the Dark Harbor talent team based in Long Beach (Arroya, Tara, or Kat). The scheduling # will handle all weekly and nightly scheduling and when you call or text the scheduling #, you will be speaking to Lilah.
- Have a question about the event? Call/Text the Talent #
- Need to confirm your availability for a shift? Call/Text the Scheduling #
Q: Can I wear perfume/cologne/fragrance as long as it's Organic?
A: Short answer: No. No fragrance EVER.
Organic fragrances can cause many of the same negative reactions as synthetic ones. If your antiperspirant has a scent, that's fine. Just no products that have a sole purpose of imparting scent.
Please bear in mind that fragrance in any form can trigger allergic reactions and asthma attacks. Also please be sensitive to the fact that your olfactory preferences may not be the same as another person's - what you think smells pleasant, another person might find distinctly _un_pleasant.
If you're concerned about smelling pleasant, please instead:
- Opt for antiperspirant instead of deodorant and be generous with applying it.
- Shower thoroughly before and after work.
- Wash your black under layers religiously.
- Supplement your hygeine routine with some spray-on antiperspirant and/or Gold Bond powder
Bonus advice: If you have a scent (good or bad), guests can smell you. This gives away your position. And then you're about as scary as the Cookie Monster.
Q: If I wear my layers of black clothing underneath my costume, do I really have to wear deodorant/antiperspirant?
A: Short Answer: For the love of God, yes. Your black layers serve multiple functions. And yes, one of those functions is to provide an additional barrier to trap body odor. But that alone will not work. Trust.
Please be courteous to the guests and the Monsters you work in close quarters with by eliminating any chance of assaulting their nasal passages.
Deodorant only covers scent. Antiperspirant helps stop the sweat which causes odor. Please opt for antiperspirant whenever possible as deodorant rarely works for longer than an hour and can actually make you smell worse in the long run.
Q: What's the best way to remove my makeup?
A: Short Answer: Check this out:
